TAIPEI, Taiwan — A batch of Ovalteenies was found by the Department of Health to contain a bacterium over the safety level yesterday and was recalled, reported local media. The Cabinet-level health department notified its local counterparts on the finding of the bacteria Bacilluscereus in Ovalteenies batched EXP11051 03E1, continued the report.

Taipei City Health Department immediately ordered the local distributor, Taiwan Hsin Lin Enterprise Co., Ltd, to recall 304,128 single-packages of the compressed Ovaltine tablets.

Health inspectors are testing different batches of the product for consumer safety.

According to the distributor, the product was imported from Thailand and was sold at Wellcome, Matsusei, Poya Living Mart, 7-Eleven, FamilyMart, Carrefour, RT-Mart, Far Eastern Geant (Ai Mai), PXMart and Shinkong Mitsukoshi, continued the report.

Bacilluscereus exists in nature, but the quantity allowed in food products is less than 100 per gram. Penalty for violation is between NT$60,000 and NT$300,000, added the report.
