Scientific Officer (Pathology, Virology)

The Job

Working in a viral diagnostic laboratory with reference and public health functions, you will develop and evaluate new tests to meet diagnostic and surveillance needs, supervise diagnostic procedures and trouble-shoot technical problems. You will perform diagnostic tests which include virus culture, immunofluorescence and serological assays, and molecular tests comprising PCR and sequencing.

In addition, you will be actively involved in quality assurance and safety activities to ensure compliance with accreditation and legal requirements. You will also assist to fulfill public health programme demands, management of the BSL-3 laboratory and supervision and training of staff.

Requirements

* Master of Science or PhD in Microbiology, Molecular Biology or Life Sciences
* Experience with virus culture, immunofluorescence, serological and molecular techniques including sequencing
* Knowledge of phylogenetics and bioinformatics
* Experience in a clinical diagnostic laboratory would be an advantage
* Good command of English language
* Able to work independently
