Senior Medical Technologist – Immunopathology

The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at the King Faisal Specialist Hospital & Research Centre in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia is accredited by the College of American Pathologists (CAP), the American Association of Blood Banks (AABB), and the American Society for Reproductive Medicine (ASRM). The laboratory is fully computerized (it uses the Cerner Client Server Laboratory Information System), and it provides a broad range of clinical laboratory services (in 2006, it performed more than 6.3 million tests).

Immunopathology is a section of the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine. Its hours of operation are:

* Saturday through Wednesday: 7:30am to 5:00pm

(Cadaveric transplant work-ups are performed 24 hours per day on an on-call basis.)

Immunopathology receives more than 62,000 specimens per year; the section is divided into three subsections:

Immunoserology (includes specimen receiving and processing)

* receives and processes approximately 4,300 samples per month
* staff includes two senior medical laboratory technologists and two staff medical laboratory technologists
* services include: testing for diagnosis/monitoring of autoimmune diseases, allergy testing, and work-up for monoclonal gammopathies

Histocompatibility & Immunogenetics

* receives and processes approximately 700 samples per month
* staff includes two senior medical laboratory technologists and nine staff medical laboratory technologists
* services include: molecular HLA typing (for potential donor/recipients of bone marrow, renal, liver, lung, and heart transplants), CDC and Flow HLA crossmatching, and engraftment monitoring studies

Cellular Immunology & Stem Cell

* receives and processes approximately 175 samples per month
* staff includes two senior medical laboratory technologists and four staff medical laboratory technologists
* services include: testing to diagnose immunodeficiency diseases, and processing stem cell grafts (from bone marrow, peripheral blood, and umbilical cord blood) for transplants

Requirements:

* Bachelor’s degree (USA) or Diploma in Medical Technology (Canada), and
* Current Technologist-level (e.g., MT) registration with the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or the Canadian Society for Medical Laboratory Science (CSMLS), and
* A minimum of three to five years current experience as a registered Medical Technologist in the specialized area, with at least one year experience as a supervisor, in a mid- to large-sized hospital in North America.
