The Rashid Hospital is a 600-bed tertiary-care hospital. The Rashid Trauma Centre is part of the Rashid Hospital. It houses facilities for emergency medicine, surgery, and ICU and treats adults and children suffering multiple traumas. The Trauma Centre has approximately 135,000 ER patient visits per year, with an admission rate of approximately 10%.

Rashid Hospital Trauma Centre Surgical Intensive Care Unit (SICU) is a 16-bedded closed unit that caters for both adult and paediatric patients.

For mechanically assisted ventilation, two ventilators are fully dedicated for Neonatal artificial ventilation. The patient base is predominantly adults who have critical injury following MVI, work related injury including major burns. In 2008 the unit provided level 3 enhanced care services to 464 patients with an average length of stay of 12.6 days, 25 of which were paediatric patients.  The medical management of each ICU patient is under the direction of the SICU Intensivist team.

The Nursing team is lead by a Nurse Manager and supported by 6 Charge Nurses who provide clinical leadership via a full shift system. The Nurse Educator provides education to support the delivery of a high quality of care that is patient focused and meets the needs of both adults and paediatric patients. The unit provides an environment to enhance knowledge and clinical skills and satisfaction in providing a high standard of care to some of the most critically ill patients in Dubai.

Reporting to the Nursing Director, the Clinical Educator: provides clinical and educational support to Trauma Center staff; assumes primary responsibility for the development, implementation, and evaluation of orientation, education, and skills training programs; and supports the clinical practice.
